WAN or Wide Area Network is a network not restricted to a small geographical area and covers a large area consisting of computer networks connecting to each other through telecommunication companies.

A WAN relies on telecommunication organizations for communicating (unlike a LAN).

WAN makes very long distance connections (even global ones) possible.
